Just saw your blog post and thought I'd reply.
Yes, my background is functional programming stuff rather than the semantic web. This different persective leads to a different approach. Whether this is a better aproach is up to you to decide. Sign up and try it out :-))
The previous version of Mash Maker was indeed an AJAX website, but that got rewritten to a firefox plugin when we realised that the AJAX approach had severe limitations (privacy issues, login issues, not supporting javascript pages well, etc etc.).
WRT Exposing via the front door - I'm definitely keen to do that. The only barrier right now is working out how best to expose it, given that the processing is done inside a the browser. I'll add this as a FAQ entry...
